What are some of the highlights of projects you’ve worked on so far this summer?

I have not been a part of any large-scale projects but working with the Cloud Automation team as well as the Cybersecurity team has been the highlight of my internship. I have learned a ton from this talented group of people and have become much better at managing networks and devices remotely. I have also gained hands-on experience with programs like ConnectWise and Logic Monitor. Every day has been a learning opportunity, and it has been great to get exposure to the real-world aspects of IT and tech management.

How do you think your experience with Align will help you with your career?

I believe my experience at Align has been one of the most impactful steps in shaping my career and aspirations. I have developed skills that I would not have had the chance to learn elsewhere, and I’m incredibly grateful for that. I have also gained a lot of confidence in my abilities within the IT field, something I wouldn’t have without this opportunity.

What has your favorite part been so far?

My favorite part has been the progression, from learning about tickets and managing services to becoming a productive part of the team. In just a few short weeks, I went from knowing almost nothing about how things worked to actively contributing and solving problems. That growth has been incredibly rewarding and motivating.

What would be your advice to any future Align interns?

Ask any and all questions while you have the chance. This company is full of incredibly smart people who are more than willing to help, and the knowledge you can gain from them is priceless. Taking advantage of the opportunity to gain experience from those around you will make your internship experience much more meaningful and rewarding.

What are some of the highlights of projects you’ve worked on so far this summer?

Some highlights of what I have worked on this summer include aiding large industry clients. Being able to communicate with the higher ups at these companies to help improve their work by even a little bit showcases a level of significance that I bring to the table.

How do you think your experience with Align will help you with your career?

I think my experience with Align will help me with my career because there are skills that I have honed and acquired like patience with clients, being able to prepare for an extremely busy day, being very careful on what I work on as one mistake could lead to miscommunication and the failure to aid a client. Also, learning to work with others as a team is something that you can’t teach, and I believe Align has been amazing at putting you in an environment where you can experience this and learn through the experience.

What has your favorite part been so far?

My favorite part so far has been the cooperation and teamwork within the service desk. It is a team of dedicated professionals who constantly work together to fulfill the daily goals of Align’s Managed Services. Despite having engineers, service coordinators, and interns, we communicate like a family here. Our chats often include jokes that uplift the mood, and I consistently saw people making an effort to brighten others' days. There is such a huge welcoming aspect to Align that I love.

What would be your advice to any future Align interns?

My advice to any future Align interns would be to try your best to learn in the very beginning, don’t be afraid to ask for help. The more that you learn early on, the easier it will be for you later.

Matthew attends Bryant University, where he is studying Business Administration with a concentration in Finance and a minor in Information Technology. He is particularly interested in the sales aspect of the business and is excited to build connections with the Align team and further his understanding of the business landscape. When not focused on his studies or internship, Matthew enjoys golfing, spending time with friends, and going on new adventures.

What are some of the highlights of projects you’ve worked on so far this summer?

One of the biggest highlights has been contributing to client machine installations, where I would deploy new computers and networking equipment at client locations. I also enjoyed collaborating with all of the companies' teams, which gave me exposure to different parts of the business and helped me develop a broader understanding of how everything works in conjunction.

How do you think your experience with Align will help you with your career?

At Align, I’ve gained valuable hands-on experience in managing priorities and communicating effectively in a professional setting. One of the most impactful parts has been meeting with clients—learning how to build relationships, understanding their needs, and contributing to the success of their business. These experiences have strengthened my confidence and prepared me for future client-facing roles, which really excites me.

What has your favorite part been so far?

My favorite part has definitely been the people. Everyone has been incredibly welcoming and supportive, and I’ve learned so much just by being around such talented people. I’ve also really enjoyed the company happy hours. This gave me time outside of working to get to know everyone (even Jim Dooling, Align's CEO) on a personal level and can say I feel like family and feel appreciated working for Align.

What would be your advice to any future Align interns?

I would say be curious and proactive. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or be scared to be thrown into something you may not understand fully, help is always there for you. Also, take time to build relationships, the connections I have made have been just as valuable as the work itself.

Learning how to effectively troubleshoot a wide range of technical issues using our ticketing system has been one of the highlights of this summer. I've worked on everything from network constraints and device debugging to software installations and account access problems.

How do you think your experience with Align will help you with your career?

My technical and communication skills have improved as a result of working with Align. I've learned how to think critically under pressure and communicate technical answers in a clear, approachable way while working on the front lines of IT assistance. I'll utilize these priceless abilities in any tech related or customer focused position. I've also been properly prepared for future positions in IT or business operations by learning how to prioritize tasks using a ticketing system and navigate a corporate environment.

Overall, I've gained a lot of knowledge from their perspectives.

What has your favorite part been so far?

My favorite part of my internship has just been getting to know all the different people at Align and the different roles they play. Everyone here does their best to learn about each other, and it was nice to work at a place where the new people are actively included. I’m especially grateful to Michelle and Ardin for their guidance and patience this summer!

Don’t be afraid to come into the office. Working from home is obviously nice, but if you can come into the office, you should! Also, you get 10% off at the Starbucks in the building if you show them your work ID.

What are some of the highlights of projects you’ve worked on so far this summer?

One of the highlights from the projects I’ve worked on this summer is working on both the front-end and back-end of an application to meet client needs. Being given the opportunity to work on a project for an external client has taught me the importance of communication, security, and collaboration.

Sean LawsonSean Lawson

Joining the Align Managed Services team for a second summer, Sean serves as a service coordinator, assisting the help desk. He's currently pursuing a Computer Science degree with a Business minor at the University of Georgia. Sean has significantly benefited from his time at Align, gaining valuable experience in both project management and client interaction.

What are some of the highlights of projects you’ve worked on so far this summer?

This summer, I’ve had the opportunity to work on a variety of networking-related tasks. Two of the more prominent tasks have been helping with the Quality Assurance work on our customer’s networks and creating/revising their Network Diagrams. The Quality Assurance work involved verifying configurations and circuits, checking for inconsistencies in the documentation and hardware, and ensuring that the best practices are being followed, giving me a hands-on insight into real-world environments. Building the Network Diagrams has been a great way to visualize the internal infrastructure and how it all fits together. I have also had the opportunity to research the integration of ConnectWise with Nautobot, help to clean up the BrightGauge ticket board, renew some SSL Certificates, and shadow the other Network Engineers in their daily tasks. All of these have helped round out my technical and organizational experiences.

How do you think your experience with Align will help you with your career?

Align has given me both technical growth and valuable professional connections. Working with the Service Desk last year gave me the insight to build a foundation in IT support, professional client communication, and troubleshooting – which have all helped with my networking role. This summer, I have been able to apply those skills in a more specialized setting while also learning from experienced engineers. Being at Align has also helped me build relationships with professionals in different departments and I know that these connections will be valuable as I continue to work in this field.

What has your favorite part been so far?

My favorite part has been creating/revising Network Diagrams. It’s very rewarding to take something that is seemingly complex and turn it into a clean, organized visual that both the teams and the clients can understand. Every client’s Network structure is different, and it is interesting to see the most efficient structure for their company’s needs. It’s also helped me improve how I think about networking structures and design, which ties directly into what I’ve been learning in my CCNA lessons.

What would be your advice to any future Align interns?

The best advice I can offer is to be proactive. I have learned a lot about Networking through watching various videos and shadowing different troubleshooting calls with the other engineers, but what has solidified my understanding in this field is asking questions about things I am confused on, as often times they made me think of a concept in a different way, or made me realize that my previous understanding was wrong. I would also advise future interns to offer to take on other tasks, as the engineer’s work can pile up quickly, and taking on some of the lighter tasks benefits the whole team and lets you learn more.

We're incredibly excited to welcome our new interns to the team! We look forward to supporting their growth and learning experiences, and we're confident they will be valuable contributors to our team.
